Have your say: Community Governance Review

Consultation is underway on possible changes to the arrangements for Parish Councils. North Herts Council is inviting residents to have their say on the draft proposals, formulated from the comments received from the first consultation (that closed in October) as part of the ongoing Community Governance Review (CGR).

The key proposed changes are:

  • to align parish council elections with district council elections, so they are all held in the same year;
  • for some parishes, there are suggestions to alter boundaries and/or adjust the number of parish councillors;
  • for parishes where there are fewer than 500 electors – that the number of parish councillors is 5;
  • proposals to change some parish ward boundaries;
  • the establishment of new Town Councils in Baldock, Hitchin, and Letchworth.

This review could impact local governance, and whether you agree or disagree with the draft proposals, your feedback is essential. The responses from the consultation will help develop the final proposals for changes to parish arrangements if and where necessary.

To read more about the consultation, please visit North Herts Council website or follow the link to the consultation document. Anyone who doesn't have access to a computer can visit the North Herts Council Office on Gernon Road, or they can make contact either on the phone, letter, in person, email, and a paper version can be supplied.
