Oaklands and Woolmer Green: Safer Routes to School

Herts County Council is consulting on proposals for safer routes to school in Oaklands and Woolmer Green. The consultation runs until 27 February 2023.

In Oaklands, HCC is considering the following improvements on the Great North Road:

Signalised crossing point near to the school and shops
A lower speed limit along the Great North Road with improvements to the junction with Canonsfield Road to make it safer to cross
Keeping the existing parking area at the Oaklands shops, whilst making it more convenient for those who wish to walk or travel by bike
Making it easier to walk, wheel and cycle between Oaklands School, the shops and the North Star pub.

In Woolmer Green, HCC aims to make the following improvements :

  • Signalised crossing point directly outside St Michael's Woolmer Green school to replace the well-used refuge island crossing point
  • Lower speed limit along the B197 London Road throughout the village
  • Making it easier to walk and cycle between St Michael's School, local amenities, and businesses.
